These are known as Freestanding Midwifery Units (FMU) as they are away from the hospital site and are run by midwives.
you can also chose the Dundee birthing unit, which is known as an AMU (alongside Midwifery unit) as it is within the hospital site at Ninewells hospital and is run by midwives.
Please remember that things can change in pregnancy and labour. Your midwife will advise you on the safest place to have your baby.

There are birth pools in all our maternity units. If the pool is in use in the maternity centre of your choice you can use any of the available pools in the other midwifery units.
If you have medical or pregnancy related problems the safest place for you to give birth will be on the Labour Ward in hospital, unless you have been told otherwise. Please ask your midwife if you are unsure.
Your local Labour Ward is Ninewells Maternity Unit at the Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

In the rare event that your baby requires neonatal care following birth, midwives will provide immediate care for your baby whilst receiving remote support from the neonatal team at Ninewells Hospital. As there are no medical staff based in the unit, if your baby requires transfer to Ninewells hospital, this will be arranged by the neonatal team and midwives and supported by a dedicated neonatal transport team or by 999 emergency ambulance. Transfer by dedicated neonatal transfer service provides the opportunity of expert care and stabilisation in transport but may take several hours. 999 ambulance transport can be accessed immediately with baby being cared for by the midwife and paramedic during transport.
